Monday Morning Music
Found myself in the mood for Janelle Monáe this morning (not an uncommon thing) and came across her performance at the “Women of Soul” concert held earlier this year at the White House. How could I pass up sharing her rendition of “Goldfinger?”
Monday Morning Music
Well, it’s the last Monday of 2013. How the hell did that happen? I don’t even know.
I’ve made 47 posts tagged Monday Morning Music this year. It’s one of my favorite (and most consistent) things I do with this blog. I love to share music with all of you. For this last entry of 2013, I thought I’d revisit some of the videos I liked the best. Chronologically seems the best way to handle this, so here we go.
From back in February, here’s Richard Thompson with his version of “Oops, I Did It Again.” He actually succeeds in making me like the damn thing.
April brought us Lila Downs and her tribute to Emiliano Zapata, “Zapata Se Queda.” Like I said back then, I love the colors in this and the music’s great, too.
Here’s one that actually came out in 2013. Janelle Monáe (and Erykah Badu) with “Q.U.E.E.N.” So much fun and I love the message. I was torn between this one and “Dance Apocalyptic.”
This one’s from 2013, too. A great song about inclusion, diversity, and not being a dick in the geek world:
Nothing To Prove” by the Doubleclicks.
And finally, a video that just keeps me smiling, even thought my heart broke when I heard that Lou Reed was gone. Reed and Pavarotti dueting on “Perfect Day.” No, really.
So, what videos were your favorites this year?

So, I heard that Janelle Monáe was not nominated for any Grammys this year.
My first reaction to that was “Woah. People still pay attention to the Grammys?” They’ve been screwing people out of awards since I was a kid. When Ani only ever gets nominated for album design, you know the system’s rigged.
But still, it’s kinda obvious that Ms. Monáe blows Taylor Swift, Justin Timberlake, or fucking Robin Thicke out of the water and her not being nominated is just stupid. So, here’s a track from this year’s album that I haven’t shared with you yet: “PrimeTime.”

We’ve made it to the middle of July, and Janelle Monáe has another video from her latest album. Since I love post-apocalyptic stuff, this is right up my alley. And something to make us smile feels even more needed now, given the weekend’s news. Here she is, looking a little different with “Dance Apocalyptic.” Also, bonus zombies!

Janelle Monáe always makes interesting videos to go with her music, and I really dig this new one. Here she is with Erykah Badu and “Q.U.E.E.N.”
“Even if it makes others uncomfortable, I will love who I am.” is one of my favorite lyrics from the song.
