Monday Morning Music

Well, the big winter holidays are approaching here in the U.S. Thanksgiving is this Thursday, a day we’re all supposed to get together and share our gratitude for the preceding year, whatever that held. So, a song about giving thanks seems appropriate for Monday Morning Music, doesn’t it?

I’m going with an old favorite. Sly & the Family Stone released “Thank You (Falettinme Be Mice Elf Agin)” in 1969, and it turned into one of their biggest hits. Here’s the band playing the tune on Soul Train, and it doesn’t look like they’re using the usual lip-synched approach. It’s pretty sweet.

If you’re celebrating Thanksgiving this week, I wish you the best of holidays and hope that you, too, can spend it being yourself. And that there will be dancing. You know, if you want.
